Paris Saint-Germain Edges Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Claim French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now secured the prestigious trophy on fourteen separate occasions.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders appeared to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the showdown between the Ligue 1 winners and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger opened the net early on.

Yet, the southern French side struck twice in the closing moments to take a surprise advantage. Initially, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial leveler in the dying moments to send the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping crucial attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored with composure for PSG to seal a convincing shootout win.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the past 13 seasons.
