Assassin's Creed Unveils Unexpected AoT Crossover for Thanksgiving
In a unexpected crossover event that challenges conventional predictions, Ubisoft has unveiled an in-game crossover between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the popular anime series Attack on Titan. The unusual holiday event runs from November 25 through December 22, offering complimentary additional story content for Shadows players.
Mysterious Adventure Revealed
According to the formal announcement, "A strange encounter leads protagonists Naoe and Yasuke into a original adventure, where whispers of prohibited rituals and fearsome metamorphoses resonate through the shadows." The plot introduces a "oddly dressed woman named Ada" who tasks the duo with traveling into the Gemstone Grotto—a key location from Attack on Titan—to rescue her companion from a hidden cult.
The mission focuses on "bizarre tests and a fearsome adversary" and is available to all players who have unlocked the Yasuke character.
Recognizable Places and Metamorphoses
The trailer highlights the Subterranean Sanctuary from Attack on Titan redesigned as the Crystal Cave. This important location was formerly where the Reiss royal family handed down the Founding Titan ability through ages. The teaser ends with a dramatic scene showing a character, presumably the hostage, transforming into a Titan that rises over Naoe and Yasuke.
Exclusive Rewards and Bonus Features
Players who successfully complete the adventure will receive an exclusive katana alongside numerous items hidden throughout the area in concealed chests. The update also features purchasable Attack on Titan item packs, including:
- Titan-inspired costume for Yasuke
- Mikasa outfit for Naoe
- Unique arms
- Survey Corps steed
Latest Free Story Content
This update also brings the game's newest free story addition, titled "The Enigma." This playful adventure teams Naoe and Yasuke as they exchange characteristic techniques: Naoe reveals a dramatic version of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke learns non-fatal stealth takedowns. True to its name, "The Enigma" also includes a new environmental puzzle that may finally clarify some lingering questions from the main storyline.
Earlier Japanese Animation Collaborations
This represents not the initial time the Assassin's Creed franchise has crossed over with popular anime series. The series formerly showcased a 2020 cross-promotional story connecting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Additionally, Valhalla unofficially included a quest that clearly nodded to the famous series One-Punch Man.
